So as of today Orange County and most of the world are under quarantine. There is not much we can do but sit, wait and pray this will all be over soon. In the interim…rather than see this as a negative, we should take this time to appreciate family time, catch up with friends on Skype or FaceTime and do that much needed self care.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if we all exited our homes in 2 weeks looking 10 years younger!? This is a time to think positive and make the best of it…sleep, hydrate, nourish and self-love.
We choose to look at this as a positive. With that, we are bringing you our Top Ten list of ways to make this stay at home feel like a productive and/or relaxing gift!
Give your Hair the Love It’s Been Waiting For
Remember all those conversations your stylist has had with you about how crucial treatments are to your hair health and color longevity? Before every appointment, I sit and have a detailed consultation with my guest on the current condition of their hair and their goals for color, cut and overall health. Two steps that I educate are imperative to EVERYONE in their hair routine for health, strength and color longevity is a weekly clarifying shampoo, bond building treatment, and deep conditioning treatment. Now is the time you can actually do it! Here are the 3 steps to your quarantine hair doctrine and why you need each.
Our hair and scalp are susceptible to build up from styling products, even some shampoo and conditioning lines (look out for petroleum by-product ingredients like resins, plastics, waxes and silicone that coat the hair shaft causing major long-term issues), minerals and metals from hard water and pollution.
Now, imagine putting on a pair of jeans and then trying to apply lotion to your legs over the jeans. Likely your legs are not going to get an ounce of the benefits from that lotion, right? It is the same idea. If your hair is coated with build up, with elements like plastics, copper, and silicone, how many benefits do you think it is retrieving from that expensive conditioning treatment? Not much, right?

Bond Building Treatment
Bond Building at home treatments, like Olaplex 3, have nothing to do with moisture or protein, so don’t get them confused. Do A Facial Treatment
I don’t know about you, but when I am in doors for awhile my skin starts to feel dry and congested. Likely due to pushing our daily skin care routine to the way side since we are not getting ready to head out for the day. Don’t let this happen, but instead take it up a notch.

Take it one step further and pre-steam before applying your mask. This will allow your pores to open and absorb maximum benefits. Here is an easy how to for your at-home steam facial.
a. Bring a small pot of water to a boil. A basic steam involves nothing but water and your skin. It doesn’t require much water. Fill up a small pot with 1 – 2 cups of water and bring it to a full boil
b. Wash your face. While the water is heating up, wash your face using a gentle cleanser. Always use lukewarm water when washing your face for maximum benefits. Be sure to remove all of your makeup and any dirt, oil or sweat that’s sitting on the surface of your skin. It’s important that your skin be clean when you steam it. Your pores will open wide, and if you have dirt or makeup on your skin, it could cause irritation. Try our Lauren Napier Cleansing wipes in addition to your daily soap to ensure your face is squeaky clean. Once your face is clean, pat it dry with a soft clean towel.
Note: Before a steam, don’t wash your face with an exfoliating scrub or harsh soap. It’s best to wash with a very mild cleanser to reduce the chance that the steam treatment will irritate your skin.
c. Pour the steaming water into a bowl. If you’re doing the steam treatment as part of an at-home spa treatment, pour it into a big, pretty ceramic or glass bowl. If you just want quick steam, you can leave it in the pot. Place whatever vessel you’re using on a few folded towels on top of a table.
Don’t pour the water into a plastic bowl. You don’t want small plastic molecules getting involved in your facial steam.
Be very careful that you do not burn yourself! If you decide to leave the water in the pot, then make sure to remove it from the heat source before using it.
d. Add essential oils or herbs. Now’s the time to add essential oils or herbs to the water to make the treatment a little special. If you add oils or herbs, the steam treatment will double as an aromatherapy session, so it will be a 2-in-1 treatment. Just a few drops of essential oils goes a long way.
Be sure to add any extras after you’ve taken the water off the boil. Otherwise, the scents will quickly evaporate.
If you don’t have any special oils or herbs, try the tea! Put a few herbal tea bags in the water. Chamomile, mint, and chai all make excellent steam.
e. Steam your face with a towel over your head. Drape the towel over your head so that it drops down on either side of your face, trapping the steam so that it concentrates near your skin. Place your face close enough to the steaming water to feel it massaging your face, but not so close that your skin feels like it’s burning or you’re having trouble breathing fresh air.
Typical steam lasts about 10 minutes, so you may want to sit down while you do the treatment. However, keep in mind that you can receive many of the same benefits if you stop after 5 minutes.
Don’t steam your face for much longer than 10 minutes, especially if you have acne or other skin issues. Steaming causes the face to swell, and it can exacerbate acne if done for too much time.

While it is wonderful that we try to give ample attention to our face and hair, we often ignore our pouts more than we should.

And nothing else even comes close to the impact a great smile can make. Fewer of us would be likely to remember a person’s clothes (9%) or the way he or she smelled (8%) after meeting for the first time. Most importantly for you singles out there, the mouth and lips are one of the first thing the opposite sex notices when deciding if you are approachable!

Treat Your Skin
Treat your skin to a luxurious at-home body treatment with dry brushing and an oil treatment. Not only will this leave your skin feeling amazing, but it improves immune function and reduces stress. Both of which, we all can use right now.
Dry Brush is one of the best activities you can include in your beauty routine to improve blood circulation and flow of the lymphatic system, a major part of the body’s immune system, clean out pores of oil, dirt and residue, reduce cellulite, and leave you with soft, supple skin. Here is a step by step guide on getting your skin to optimum health during your quarantine.
a. Starting at the feet, Brush the bottoms of your feet and up your legs in long, smooth strokes. Try to brush each section of skin at least ten times. For lymph flow, brush toward the heart/chest area where the lymph system drains. (As a good rule of thumb, always brush toward the center of the body).
b. Repeat the same process with the arms, starting with the palms of the hands and brushing up the arm toward the heart. Again, brush each section of skin 10 times.
On the stomach and armpits, brush in a circular clockwise motion.
c. Then repeat the process on your abdomen and back.
Don’t brush too hard! A soft and smooth stroke often works best. Your skin can be slightly pink after brushing, but it should never be red or sting. If it hurts at all, use less pressure!
d. Take a shower using a natural hydrating body wash, like Nash and Jones White Soap Bar.
e. Pat dry and apply a rich, hydrating all natural body oil like Lucy B Lavendar or Rose Body Oil. Both are rich in highly-absorbant oils like jojoba and argan to leave your skin feeling nourished, but not oily. Then put on a warm robe out of the dryer and relax with a good book.
Catch Up On Sleep
We all are constantly going a hundred miles an hour. Waking up early to get ready for work, get our kids dressed, fed and off to school. When was the last time you let yourself sleep in without guilt?
According to the CDC, 35% of adults do not get enough sleep (7 hours per day) and 20% of teenagers get less than 5 hours of sleep. This has major effects on income, health, weight, and memory. A study by RAND Europe, a non-profit organization, found that a person who sleeps on average less than six hours a night has 13 percent higher mortality risk than someone sleeping between seven and nine hours. Eek! So turn off the phone, put away the computer and get some much needed shut eye.
Organize Your Home
Has that disorganized closet been calling you for months? Could you simplify your life with a little spring cleaning of the kids’ rooms or your garage? Why not take advantage of this time to complete tasks around the house that have been weighing on you for months, maybe even years.
So you don’t get overwhelmed, choose one area at a time or assign tasks to family members. Make a game out of it to get everyone on board. Have a voting panel, where everyone is scored based on their task with the winner getting a prize like a night out of their choice with the family once the quarantine is over. Or buy a gift certificate for a restaurant or local movie theater as the winning prize allowing you to do something fun while supporting a small local business during this trying time.
Clean Out Those 10,000 Emails
Did you know that emails are a huge source of carbon emissions? Yep, all those emails in your junk box and inbox are stored on multiple servers around the world. Those servers are stored in big data centers which consume crazy amounts of electricity every day. Electricity is still mostly generated by fossil fuels which results in global carbon emissions, or green house gases. Crazy, right!? Who knew.
So take this down time and save the environment by cleaning out those unnecessary emails swarming your inbox and junk boxes. Don’t forget to clean out your trash folder and reload it, or they are still being stored.
Exercise with the Family
If you don’t get moving, you likely will start to feel stir crazy. Do couples yoga or get the family in on some sprints and sit ups in the back yard. Better yet, remember those Brady Bunch bean bag races in the backyard? While teens may roll their eyes at the idea, once it is happening the laughter gets contagious. Push the family out of their comfort zone and do some good old outdoor games and activities. It will kill off some steam and allow you to get some much needed family reconnecting.
Catch Up with Old Friends and Family
Remember all those moments your promised yourself to make more time to maintain your friendships and catch up with family? Well, here is your chance. Use Skype or Face Time and make a phone call. We are all at home so you are likely not going to bother anyone in the middle of a meeting, in the car or while out to dinner. They likely will love your call as, like you, it offers them an opportunity to catch up and pass the time.
